Day hospice in Singapore
Daytime palliative care, structured therapy, and social programming for patients who live at home but benefit from regular clinical contact.
What is it?
Day hospice services give palliative-care patients a structured daytime programme: medical review, symptom management, art / music / occupational therapy, peer support, and a meal. The patient returns home in the evening. It bridges the gap between purely-home care and inpatient hospice.
Who it suits
- Patients whose primary caregiver works during the day
- Patients who benefit from structured activity and peer contact
- Patients with manageable symptoms that need weekly medical review

Costs and subsidies
Before government subsidies, day hospice sessions in Singapore typically cost $80–$150 per day. MOH community palliative care subsidies significantly reduce this amount, and eligible Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents can benefit from an additional portable subsidy via household income means-testing — bringing the out-of-pocket cost down to as little as $5–$30 per session for those in lower-income tiers. MediSave cannot be used for day hospice directly, but may apply to home-based care components bundled with the programme.
See our subsidy guide for full details.

Frequently asked questions
Who is day hospice for?
Patients with a palliative diagnosis who are stable enough to travel to a centre for the day. It is often suitable for those already on home palliative care who would benefit from structured social engagement and regular clinical oversight.
How often do patients attend day hospice?
Most programmes run 1–2 sessions per week, each lasting around 6–8 hours. Frequency is set by the care team based on the patient’s condition and goals. Transport to and from the centre is usually arranged by the hospice.
What does a day hospice programme include?
A typical day includes medical review, nursing care, physiotherapy or occupational therapy, psychological support, social work, creative or music therapy, a meal, and peer companionship. The programme is tailored to each patient’s palliative care goals.
Do I need a referral to attend day hospice?
Yes, a referral from a doctor or an existing palliative care team is required. You can initiate a referral through your hospital care coordinator or call the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) at 1800-650-6060 for guidance.
How much does day hospice cost, and is there a subsidy?
Before subsidy, day hospice sessions typically cost $80–$150 per day. MOH subsidies reduce this substantially, and an additional portable subsidy is available via household income means-testing for eligible Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents. After subsidy, many patients pay $5–$30 per session depending on their means-test tier. See our subsidy guide for the full breakdown.
Can I combine day hospice with home palliative care?
Yes — many patients attend day hospice on certain days and receive home palliative care visits on other days. The two services are designed to complement each other and can be coordinated through AIC or your palliative care team.
